DesignaKnit Concept consists of two modules, Stitch Designer and Interactive Knitting. Stitch Designer offers all you need to design colour patterns and integrate thwm with a range of standard garments, while Interactive Knitting enables you to knit them with on-screen instructions.

Standard Windows paint tools, including pencil, brushes, erasers, rectangle, ellipse, flood fill, zoom in or out, and a lasso for dragging a part of the design.

Work on almost any number of pattern repeats.

Browse through colour patterns stored on file, using the thumbnail viewer.

Modify a pattern by shuffling it horizontally or vertically, rotating, rescaling or mirroring.

Import another stitch patter as a single repeat or a tiled area.

Control the colours used in the pattern. Select up to 48 colours to work with for a given pattern, edit the colour names, vary the colours at random, and replace on colour with another.

Special knitting functions include: Control which Fairisle colours select needles. Control which yarns go into which feeder. Add or remove rows or stitch columns. See stocking stitch texture.

Special checks that the pattern is ready to knit. Check number of colours per row. Chjeck for long floats. Check yarn stitches for Jacquard knitting. Check for difficult colour changes.

Combine the stitch pattern with a range of standard size garments. An outline of each garment piece can be laid onto a stitch pattern so that the registration of shape and stitch pattern is as you require. A pattern piece can be drawn into a stitch pattern as an outline in a yarn colour for cut and sow.

The stitch tensions that you are actually knitting can be entered into the program so that the design is stitch perfect.

Choose to work in centimetres or inches.

The Silverlink cable connects to the knitting carriage for the following machines: Silver Reed SK830, SK840, SK860, SK890 or Knitmaster 550, 560 or 580. In addition, it can connect to the AG50 intarsia carriage for use with the SK840 and Knitmaster machines.

Interactive knitting can be used to knit either a rectangular swatch of chosen size, or a garment piece. If the piece has been integrated with a stitch pattern, the knitted result will show the stitch pattern positioned on the piece in the way that you choose in Stitch Designer.

When the ready button is selected, the screen shows instructions for knitting the rib.

With each pass of the carriage, Concept selects the appropriate needles for the current row of knitting. If shaping or colour change instructions are reequired for the next pass of the carriage, they are shown on the screen and can be optionally be spoken through the windows sound system.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to connect your Pesonal Computer to the knitting machine you will require a suitable connecting cable. We recommend the use of either the Silver Link2 or Silver Link 4 cables. Both these cables are fully described in the next section. The Silver Link 2 cable will connect your personal computer directly to your Silver Reed electronic knitting machine and will transfer stitch patterns to the knitting machine as well as display shaping and colour changing instructions on the screen. This cable takes its power from the domestic electricity supply.

This cable is recommended for use only with Windows NT4, 2000 or XP.

Not recommended for use with networked PCs.

The Silver Link 4 cable does the same job as the Silver Link 2 but has many advantages. There is a choice of either a USB or serial connection and it will work with ALL current Windows Operating Systems. It is possible to knit faster than with the Silver Link 1 or Silver Link 2 cables and there is no mispatterning which can sometimes occur with the Silver Link 2 when it is used in a combination of an older operating system and an up to date computer.
